Howard Barker Lane, P.C.’s predecessor law firm was started on May 1, 1991 by its founding partner Molly M. Howard with Wayne Racz as Howard & Racz, P.C. Prior to founding the firm, Mrs. Howard and Mr. Racz were Partners at Hunter, Maclean, Exley & Dunn, P.C. Howard & Racz engaged in a general litigation practice. In 1995, Mr. Racz left the practice of law to become a minister in the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. After his departure, Thomas “Tom” Whatley of Atlanta moved with his family to Isle of Hope to join the firm as a partner. On February 24, 1997, the name of the firm was changed to Howard & Whatley, P.C. The firm practiced Family Law and General Liability Insurance and Workers’ Compensation defense. In January 2019, Mr. Whatley left the firm to become a United Methodist Minister at Isle of Hope United Methodist Church.
On January 1, 2021, the firm added two partners, Evan C. Barker and Megan H. Lane, who joined the firm as associates in 2016, and the name of the firm changed to Howard Barker Lane, P.C.
Howard Barker Lane’s practice is exclusively devoted to all aspects of Family Law, including divorce, child custody, child support, contempt actions, Guardian ad litem work, and suits for separate maintenance. Although the firm specializes in high asset and complex asset valuations of closely held businesses and medical practices, it has a varied client base of all economic backgrounds from Chatham, Bryan, Effingham, and surrounding counties.
